Situated at the back of a steep block this classic 1970s brick dwelling was transformed into a modern, sleek, home.

Extending out wasn’t possible, so the renovation, which included a new kitchen, timber flooring, two new bathrooms and a laundry, went up.

The client had a strong sense of the design they were after and were keen to celebrate the original 1970s architecture while adding space and light.

The original brown exposed beams and stained timber finishes were retained and new joinery including dark stained ply and natural stone bench tops in keeping with the 1970s aesthetic were added. The windows in the kitchen/dining area were replaced with double glazed floor to ceiling sliding doors.

The client supplied vintage tiles for the minimalist bathrooms and wall-mounted vanities were in keeping with the sleek aesthetic.

External works revolved around dealing with the site’s drainage issues. A significant amount of work went into controlling water run off from the back of the property. This included the addition of large concrete retaining walls with inbuilt drainage. Not just practical, these walls added to the style of the property and framed the natural bush setting at the rear.

The extension being the second story created a second living space and study area as well as offering an at level escape to the elevated back yard.
