Location: Macedon Ranges
Architect: Wolveridge Architects
Key features: Completely off grid, spring-fed natural swimming pool, blackbutt timber cladding, burnished concrete floor, concrete block masonry.
Energy rating: 8 Star energy rating

Set on an elevated hillside on the edge of a rolling pasture and state forest in the Macedon Ranges, Hill Plains Pool House enjoys panoramic views of Mount Macedon, Greenhill and the Heathcote ranges.

The 50-square-metre structure combines a standalone guest quarters and a natural, spring fed swimming pool.

The design of the property was heavily influenced by the Victorian era agricultural buildings common to the area and employs materials and features commonly found in these long simple structures. Chunky hardwood cladding, long roof lines, raked ceilings, burnished concrete floors, stained plywood walls and concrete block masonry.

Backed by an impressive sustainability ethos, the cottage is rated in excess of 8 stars and runs completely off-grid.

It is the personal project of architect and firm-director Jerry Wolveridge and sits adjacent to the family home, Hill Plains House.
