Shedshaker Brewery

Location: CASTLEMAINE
Architect: CROSBY ARCHITECT

This was a high-end project designed by Crosby Architects that required technical expertise for execution. Edifice Construction brought skill and craftsmanship to the build, utilizing premium products, quality fixtures, and bespoke features. Notable elements include sturdy bank doors salvaged from an original ANZ bank in Melbourne, transformed by our carpenters into a feature screen, large second-hand viewing windows sourced from an old church in Melbourne, which our carpenters meticulously installed in a confined area, while ensuring sufficient space for kitchen access and fire escapes and vents from the original building repurposed to create a bar. Throughout this project, recycling and reusing materials was a priority. Both the clients and architects made a conscious effort to give materials a second life, honoring the original structure of the building.
The entire site is new except for the existing, very old brick walls. From the concrete slab to the new roof, everything in between has been constructed with purpose. The building materials have proven to be robust while remaining aesthetically pleasing, and the attention to detail is evident in all facets of the build.
The use of recycled and repurposed materials contributed to the industrial feel the clients desired. These elements, combined with the retention of large load-bearing girders and the exposed brick of the original walls, create a harmonious blend of old and new, breathing life into a previously disused section of the mill site.
At Edifice Construction, our focus is on quality, and the Shedshaker project was no exception. The construction met the defined standards of both the client and the architect, encompassing design, materials, workmanship, and overall functionality to ensure compliance with project requirements.
